| In German, there's two words for "you"; "Sie" and "du". Sie is what you call someone over 16 or married or that you don't know so well or whatever, and du is what you call someone who's under that age, or that you know well. So I was standing and waiting for Tweetie last week when I got jumped by some little woman who wanted to sell me flowers. She started off with one hell of a rant and I tried to tell her that I don't speak German - not nearly good enough to follow someone blabbering at top speed anyway. She then proceeded with asking me where I come from, if I spoke any language that she spoke (Italian, English, French, Spanish) and since I didn't really feel like buying any flowers I just tried to shake my head. Besides, I didn't have any money either. Anyway, then the little idiot called me "du". Mini sees red. RED. While I was in Sweden, there was no problem, since we only have one word for "you", but since I moved here, it kind of got stuck in my mind. When a complete fucking stranger addresses me, I want to be "Sie". I'm not that young, and they don't know me at all, so they have no fucking right calling me "du". Bosses and coworkers, that's fine, I have no problem with that, but someone I've just met on the street? No-fucking-thanks.
Actually, I'm quite surprised that I reacted this strongly. Shows that brainwashing isn't that difficult.. O.o
